Brazil Votes: First Round of General Election Kicks Off

BBC News reports that Brazil is heading to the polls for the first round of its general election. Voters are casting ballots in a highly polarized political climate, with major races for president, Congress, and state governorships on the line. The election comes amid widespread concerns about the economy, democracy, and social issues. Incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro is facing a strong challenge from former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, among other candidates. The first round will determine whether any candidate wins an outright majority, or if the decision will go to a runoff. The outcome will have significant implications for Brazil's future direction and its role on the global stage.
