Fareed Zakaria's September Roundup: Trump, Putin, AI, and US-China Relations

In this roundup of his takes from September, CNN's Fareed Zakaria offers sharp analysis on three critical issues. First, he argues that Donald Trump dangerously misunderstands Vladimir Putin, failing to grasp the Russian president's strategic goals and the threat he poses to global stability. Zakaria explains how this misperception could lead to policy missteps. Next, Zakaria discusses recent developments in artificial intelligence, suggesting that they are becoming more disturbing than science fiction. He explores the ethical and societal implications of rapid AI advancement, from job displacement to autonomous weapons. Finally, Zakaria examines why Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping actually need each other, despite their public antagonism. He argues that the US and China are economically interdependent and that cooperation on issues like climate change and pandemic response is essential. The segment provides a thought-provoking overview of the month's key geopolitical and technological trends.
