Zelensky Backs Trump's 'Energy Ceasefire' with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed his support for an energy ceasefire with Russia, a proposal announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy stated that he is awaiting further details from the American side, while Russia and President Vladimir Putin have yet to comment on the initiative. The ceasefire was first mentioned in a post by Trump, following his earlier calls for Ukraine to stop attacking Russian oil refineries. This BBC News report examines the significance of the proposed ceasefire and its potential impact on the ongoing conflict. It analyzes the motivations behind Trump's announcement and the reactions from both Kyiv and Moscow. The energy ceasefire could mark a significant de-escalation in a key area of the war, but its success depends on mutual compliance and further negotiations. The segment also considers the broader diplomatic context, including the recent U.S.-Russia diesel deal and the strained relations between Washington and Kyiv. With Zelenskyy's backing, the proposal gains momentum, but many questions remain about how it would be implemented and monitored.
