What the Power Pose Controversy Reveals About Science
Check out JMP’s workshop here: https://www.jmp.com/scishow-dataviz. You might remember the power pose. The idea, popular in the early 2010s, that if you hold the Superman position your body reacts in ways that make you feel more confidence. The idea has been thoroughly debunked, and partially redeemed -- and teaches us something about how we should do psychology in the future. We trace the rise and fall of the power pose, from its initial viral success to the replication crisis that followed. The controversy highlights issues in psychological research, such as p-hacking and publication bias, and how the scientific community responded. Hosted by Niba, this video examines what the power pose saga tells us about the self-correcting nature of science. It's a cautionary tale and a hopeful one, showing that even when research goes wrong, the process can lead to better understanding. Support SciShow on Patreon for more.
