France's Yellow Vest Protests Return: Thousands March Against Rising Costs

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across France in response to online calls to revive the 'yellow vest' movement, driven by spiking living costs. Demonstrators joined student protesters already demanding better education funding, and violent clashes have broken out in multiple cities between demonstrators and police. DW News reports from Paris, where despite the clashes, the vast majority of protesters are peacefully expressing their concerns. The revival of the yellow vest movement, which first emerged in 2018 over fuel taxes, signals ongoing discontent with economic inequality and government policies. The report captures the mood on the ground, with interviews from protesters and analysis of the movement's demands. As the protests dominate headlines, the French government faces pressure to address the root causes of the unrest and restore calm.
