Flydubai Cockpit Attack: Security Expert on Aviation Terrorism Threat

DW News examines the aftermath of a violent cockpit attack on a Flydubai flight bound for Israel, which authorities are investigating as a potential terrorist incident. The suspected attempt to crash the plane has revived fears of aviation terrorism and raised questions about how someone reportedly banned from flying due to extremist views was able to board the flight. Intelligence agencies are probing whether the co-pilot had links to regional actors or Iran. DW's Ben Fajzullin speaks with Hans-Jakob Schindler from the Counter Extremism Project to understand how such a security breach could occur and what it means for the future of air travel. The discussion covers the challenges of screening passengers and crew, the effectiveness of no-fly lists, and the evolving tactics of terrorist groups. It underscores the need for heightened vigilance and international cooperation to prevent similar incidents.
