'Mothers of Kherson' Opera Opens in Poland to Rouse Global Attention

"Mothers of Kherson," a new opera, has opened at Poland's National Opera in a co-production with New York's Metropolitan Opera. Created in close association with Save Ukraine, a group working to bring back Ukrainian children from Russia, the performance aims to reawaken global interest in the war in Ukraine. More than four years after Russia's invasion, the opera tells the stories of mothers affected by the conflict, blending music and testimony to powerful effect. The collaboration underscores the role of art in processing trauma and advocating for justice. The creators hope the opera will serve as a reminder of the human cost of the war. The premiere comes as international attention wanes, and the artists involved stress the importance of keeping the spotlight on Ukraine's struggle.
