French Student Unions Vow to Continue Protests Over School Conditions

French student unions have pledged to continue their protests after weeks of demonstrations that began with isolated cases in high schools in Rennes, Brittany; Caen, Normandy; and Villeneuve-d'Ascq, near Lille. The initial complaints centered on overloaded timetables, staffing shortages, and poor facilities, but the movement quickly gained momentum. Within days, the protests spread to Saint-Denis and Créteil on the outskirts of Paris, and one interview with students garnered 1.4 million views on TikTok, amplifying the message. The unrest morphed into a nationwide phenomenon, with students demanding better conditions and greater investment in education. Unions say they will not back down until their demands are met. The protests reflect broader frustrations with the French education system, which many argue has been neglected. As the movement grows, it poses a challenge to the government and highlights the power of social media in mobilizing youth. FRANCE 24 English reports on the latest developments and the students' determination to keep fighting.
