Will Trump's Midterm Strategy Backfire? Panel Weighs In

Jeffrey Goldberg and the panel discussed why President Donald Trump's call for voters to "pretend that I'm on the ballot" this midterm election year could backfire. NPR’s Steve Inskeep noted the issues that are personal to voters "that bother them and they think about," including the Trump administration's cuts to billions of dollars in federal grants. "There are a lot of people who have a personal reason to be energized in this election," Steve Inskeep said. The panel explored how these personal concerns might outweigh Trump's influence, potentially leading to unexpected outcomes. The discussion, part of Washington Week with The Atlantic, also touched on broader political dynamics and the potential impact on the midterms. The panelists analyzed whether Trump's strategy could motivate his base or instead energize opponents. For more insights, watch the full episode.
