Russia Strikes Kharkiv Power Plant After Trump Announces 'Energy Ceasefire'

Russia has attacked a power plant in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, despite President Donald Trump's earlier statement that both sides had agreed to an 'energy ceasefire.' According to Ukrainian officials, the thermal power plant CHP-5 was struck at least twice, causing a fire. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the attack on the plant, as well as another in Kyiv, stating that they occurred after Trump's announcement. The strikes undermine the prospects for a ceasefire and highlight the continued volatility of the conflict. The incident raises questions about the credibility of ceasefire agreements and the ability of international diplomacy to halt attacks on critical infrastructure. Local officials and residents are left to cope with the damage and disruption to power supply.
