Mamdani Condemns ICE Shooting in the Bronx as 'Outrage'

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the shooting of a man by ICE agents in the Bronx as "an outrage" and called for the agency's withdrawal from the city. The man, identified by authorities as 28-year-old Oscar Belgal, was wounded after an ICE agent discharged a weapon into the man's vehicle, which also had a 5-year-old sitting in the backseat, city officials said. The 5-year-old was not injured, and the man was transported to hospital before being taken into ICE custody. Mamdani's strong response reflects growing tensions between local authorities and federal immigration enforcement. The incident has sparked protests and renewed debate over ICE's tactics and presence in sanctuary cities. Mayor Mamdani's call for ICE to leave the city underscores the deepening divide over immigration policy and public safety.
