'American Pope' Chronicles Leo XIV's Journey from Chicago to the Vatican

Pope Leo XIV made history as the first American to lead the Catholic Church, and a new book, 'American Pope,' traces his remarkable journey from Chicago’s South Side to decades of missionary work in Peru and ultimately to the highest ranks of the Vatican. The book offers a fuller portrait of the man behind the papacy. Geoff Bennett spoke with authors Scott Detrow and Daniel Burke about their work, which delves into Leo’s early life, his calling to the priesthood, and the experiences that shaped his progressive views. The authors discuss how his American roots and missionary background influence his approach to global issues and his leadership style. The interview also explores the significance of his election, the challenges he faces within the Church, and his vision for its future. 'American Pope' provides an in-depth look at a pivotal figure in modern Catholicism.
