France PM Calls Crisis Meeting After Weekend Riots; Macron Urges Dialogue

French Prime Minister has called a crisis meeting following the worst street violence the country has seen in years. Over the weekend, protests over the cost of living turned into riots, with looting and burning across France. President Emmanuel Macron has called for dialogue and promised a hard line against the disorder, while both the far-left and far-right have accused each other of stirring up the violence. The unrest has raised alert levels across Europe, where elections are scheduled in at least half a dozen countries next year. The violence in France is seen as a symptom of broader discontent over rising prices and economic inequality, which could fuel political instability elsewhere.
