French Anti-Terror Probe Links School Shooting to 'True Crime Community'

The French anti-terrorism prosecutor has taken over the investigation into a school shooting near Marseille after an initial probe found that the 14-year-old suspect appeared to belong to a group called the True Crime Community. Two teachers were shot and wounded when a student opened fire with a hunting rifle hidden inside a guitar case. The case has shocked the nation and raised concerns about online radicalization and youth violence. FRANCE 24's Sharon Gaffney speaks with Alexandre Rodde, a security consultant, researcher, and author of the report "Understanding Nihilistic Violence," to shed light on the True Crime Community and its potential influence on the suspect. Rodde explains how online subcultures can glorify violence and attract vulnerable individuals, leading to real-world attacks. The discussion also covers the challenges of monitoring and preventing such threats. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the suspect's digital footprint and connections to extremist networks. The incident has prompted a broader debate about school safety, mental health support, and the role of social media in fostering violent ideologies. The segment provides critical context for understanding the complexities of modern terrorism and the need for comprehensive prevention strategies.
