National Museum of the American Latino Finds Permanent Home on National Mall
After six years of operating without its own building, the National Museum of the American Latino is finally getting a permanent home. In August, the Smithsonian's board of regents voted to give the museum a home in the Arts and Industries Building on the National Mall, a significant milestone for Latino representation in the nation's capital. Geoff Bennett discusses the museum's journey and future plans with Jorge Zamanillo, the museum's founding director. Zamanillo shares his vision for the museum, the importance of showcasing Latino contributions to American history and culture, and the impact this permanent space will have on visitors from around the world. He also talks about the challenges of fundraising and the ongoing efforts to bring the museum to life. This segment highlights the importance of diverse narratives in our national story and the progress being made to honor Latino heritage. PBS News Hour remains committed to covering cultural and historical developments that enrich our understanding of America.
